AGS Complete Fuel Line Kits |
RockAuto now has AGS premium pre-bent fuel line kits to repair Chevy/GMC trucks and GM cars with the most problematic original equipment (OE) lines.
Why Choose a Complete Fuel Line Kit? If one line is leaking, the other lines may not be far behind, as they face the same underbody conditions. Plus, when trying to replace individual rusty fuel lines, other old lines and fittings may start leaking after being disturbed. Kits include the specific line, fittings, fuel filter if required, and hardware needed for a clean, complete installation.
AGS metal lines are CNC bent to ensure an exact fit. Components are made from durable, corrosion resistant galvanized steel, stainless steel and/or PTFE flexible hose. Kits have been lab tested to meet or exceed OE burst pressure and flow rate specifications.
Restore performance/safety, prevent surprises and reduce installation time with an AGS pre-bent fuel line kit! Find these fuel line kits for specific GM trucks and cars under “Fuel Line / Hose” in the "Fuel & Air" category of the RockAuto.com catalog.

Repair Mistakes & Blunders |
Upon reaching 16 years of age and acquiring my license, I proudly purchased my mother's 1964 Pontiac LeMans. I drove it from April until July when, with the advice of some "mechanically inclined" friends, I decided to rebuild and "muscle up" the motor while my parents were out of town for a week.
Everything went well and on schedule; tearing all the way down to the block, installing a new camshaft, headers, manifold, carburetor, reworked cylinder heads and all new hardware. By the time my parents arrived home, I had almost completed the job but could not get the darn engine to start! After listening to my Dad explain the virtues of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," we proceeded to troubleshoot the problem. After some investigation, my Dad finally said that the timing was off. He asked about the installation of the cam, and I said I put it in just like the old one. He mentioned something about degrees, but I thought that math was definitely something not needed in mechanics.
After an afternoon of various initiations into the world of colorful mechanic's language, my Dad finally asked me to start the car. It started right up and ran like a champ. That was when I realized that there are 360 degrees on a compass, and if you are 90 degrees off on a cam, you are not going cruising in your ride any time soon.

Why does the 2021 Corvette have a diesel glow plug warning light on the dash?
A. The 2022 Corvette sold in China, Europe and perhaps other regions will be available with a 3.3L straight-six twin turbo diesel built by GM's partner in China, SAIC.
B. The glow plug light has always been used to indicate that a diesel engine is not yet ready to start. GM is now using the same warning light to indicate electric cars, including future Corvettes, are still plugged into a battery charger and cannot be "started."
C. GM saves money by using the same warning light circuit board in multiple vehicles even if some of the lights are irrelevant for a specific model.

Fuel Line Disconnect Tools |
Strange that I was happy to fill my first toolbox with sets of screwdrivers, sockets and wrenches, but if a fastener design was younger than me, I resisted getting the correct tools for it as long as possible. I tried to turn the first Torx (star) fastener I encountered by shoving in a small flat-blade screwdriver and Allen (hex) wrench. I have destroyed other "new" fasteners by trying to turn them with pliers. Maybe it is a genetic thing. Perhaps I had a grandparent who struggled to turn Phillips head screws (introduced to cars in the 1930s) with the point of his/her pocketknife.
More likely I was worried that a new fastener design would not catch on. I might struggle to find the right tool and then it would sit unused. I recently caught myself doing it again with fuel line connectors. Now that several cars in the family fleet were built this century, I found myself struggling to undo modern fuel-line connectors with small screwdrivers and picks; time was wasted and fingers were injured.
To be fair, fuel line connectors do not just range in size from big to small. Most car manufacturers use similar clip-on fuel line (transmission and A/C) connectors, but some require slightly different tools as well as a variety of sizes. Thankfully, RockAuto has sets of Fuel Line Disconnect Tools that are more like complete toolboxes, able to handle the connectors on a variety of vehicles. It is satisfying to use a simple tool to release a complex looking connector with a quick click!

John's 1987 Ford Thunderbird |
|
This is my 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe with a 2.3 liter engine, intercooled turbo and 5 speed manual transmission. I am the second owner and caretaker of this original sub-thirty thousand mile car. When I graduated college in 1987, this was one of the cars I planned on buying. Instead I bought a 1989 Mustang GT convertible. But the thought of owning a Turbo Coupe always stayed with me.
Credit goes to the original owner who took immaculate care of this car. In 2014 the Thunderbird was consigned to a Ford Dealer in Minnesota where I found it. It was in near showroom condition. However the wheels were pitted and the air conditioning system had a leak. Thanks to RockAuto, I was able to replace the wheels and the A/C lines, condenser and accumulator. The wheels look great and the air conditioning is crispy cool. Thanks RockAuto!
